limnOLOGY

Lakes are probably the most important terestrial ecosystem in polar regions, where large part of biodiversity is concentrated and are also an important landscape feature. We study physico-chemical properties, lake´s origin and development and especially its biological properties (microbial diversity and abundance). Longterm monitoring of water temperature was set up in central Svalbard in 2011, shorter studies were carried out in Antarctica as well - Vega island and James Ross island.
